Krista's Inuyasha Fanart Tutorial
Part One: The Line Drawing
I draw all my artwork directly into Photoshop 6.0 with my nifty Wacom Graphire2 drawing tablet:

When I started the Inuyasha pic, I wanted it to be high enough resolution so that I could print it on 8.5 x 11" glossy photo paper and frame it. I set my resolution at 300 dpi. I start out with doing rough sketch of my idea with the file zoomed out to 25% magnification. |
Once I get the basic sketch down, this is what it looks like at 100% magnification. Pretty ugly, huh? |

Fortunately, it doesn't stay this way. I take this layer and reduce its opacity so that it looks like this: |

Then, at full magnification, I use my rough sketch as a guide and sketch in more detail on another layer. Still really rough at this point. |

Once that is done, I push up the magnification to either 200% or 300%, create yet another layer, and draw the polished lines over the top of the two rough layers beneath. This is the most time-consuming process, and usually takes me hours on end. |

Once the polished line drawing is done, I eliminate the two rough layers so I can see the final result. Much better, eh? |
