And then it snowed for four days in a row. Just to prove me wrong. It didn't stop until yesterday morning. They closed the school Monday because of it. And they say another big one will be here tomorrow. We'll see.
So a minute ago, someone was here from the office. "I heard they were moving you again," she said.
"They are?" I said.
Appearantly the office has decided that the room we were in before was better. Real brainwave that. "But," she said. "You didn't hear that from me."
It's good. I liked that room a lot better. It had windows, for one thing. It's about twice the size for another. I just think they could have saved everyone ( and when I say everyone, I really mean me. ^-^ ) a great deal of trouble by asking my opinion *before* moving us.

First snowfall in the Salt Lake Valley. We've all been wondering what was taking so long. Two days ago a news report said "Only three more months to the Olympics and still no snow!" Like it was some big tragedy in the making. Oh no. Only three more months.
The truth is that winters here are very mild. I mean, not like, San Diego mild, but mostly dry and fairly comfortable. It snows here, and there are usually one or two days when it gets below zero, but people wear shorts here all year long, and we often go months between snow storms. There's very little precipitation, and almost no humidity, so even when it is very cold, you don't notice it much unless you're out in it for a while. People who have lived here all their lives sometimes complain about the cold and the snow, but it's 'cause they're spoiled. I once spent a year and a half in Michigan. *That* was a winter. Oi.
Today I'm making fudge. It's another one of my Mom's recipes that I've been eating all my life, but never tried to make before. Since I moved out, I try one or two of them every few months. I've mastered the cheesecake and the whitesauce with tuna. I usually don't screw up the hot fudge too badly. The fudge is a bit more tricky. It involves counting marshmallows and using a burner and all sorts of strange things. It's cooling now. Hopefully it'll be edible.

I have a really good friend that's into anime, but not fanfiction. She used to proofread my old Ranma stories if I asked really nicely, but that was mostly just to humor me. Anyway, I recently told her that I had started writing Card Captor Sakura fiction, and she smiled and nodded politely. Then she said "You know what would be cool? If you wrote a story about Sakura in the future."
I said "Ummm ... Well ..."
She said "No, really. Like when she's in highschool or something." ^-^

Dad is coming back for Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday afternoon. Because my sister works for Southwest Airlines, he gets free airfare, but how he expects to get on a Thanksgiving week flight when he has to go standby I don't really get.
At any rate, tradition dictates that he be home for the day before Thanksgiving. Almost as soon as the meal is over, he and my mother go to Arizona for their annual whatever it is. They're usually gone from Wednesday night to Monday night. Because I don't have to work *or* deal with family members or friends, my personal Thanksgiving Day tradition involves leftovers, a microwave, a notebook, and a nice fountain pen.

It's up, it's live, it's beautiful. ^-^
If you'd like to see the new webmanga my roommate and I have been working on for the last few months, it's here. Krista does all of the art, and we work on the story together. The webpage design and other techy stuff is my doing.
Page two will be out on Tuesday.
And I'm going to go see 'Harry Potter' now.

My father lost his job.
Two DAYS ago.
AND moved to San Diego for at least a month.
And my family did not feel the need to tell me about it. I found out from my brother this afternoon at four when I called to ask if I could borrow a car tonight. I work exactly four miles from the house they live in, and live about eight miles away, and they didn't feel like it was an important enough event for them to call me and let me know.
Sometimes I think my whole family is on crack and it makes me really really mad because they're not sharing it with me.

The webcomic goes live in three days. Butterflies in the stomach big time. Don't know why. It's just really different from anything I've ever done before. If you want to see it, I'll be posting a link to it here and on my main page early early Saturday. Probably midnight. I've been busy most of this last five or six days trying to get the webpage ready. It's taking a while because keenspace has dozens of tags that you can use on their pages that do nifty things, but it's hard to figure out exactly how they all work, because they only work there, and because to upload a page, you have to send it, then request an update which takes between two minutes and three hours depending on how long the que is. It's starting to look pretty good, though. I still have to fix a couple of the buttons and set up our forum (though I'm not sure I'll be able to do that until Sunday) and add a few more links to other great comics.
Of course, since it's a Krista project, the whole world is going to see it. (Sorry, Onee-sama, but it's true.) Probably one of the main reasons I'm so nervous and worried about making it look nice. It's fun, though. And at the moment, it's actually on schedule.

More fun with keenspace. Their addressing is a little weird, but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. My friend Storm has a tasty comic there called The Godly and the Damned and he's been very supportive and informative and lots of other good ives.
The page is nowhere near ready for company, but I think I've got the basic layout more or less finished, and I've been working on the peripheral pages all week. Still a ways to go if it's going to be ready when we officially open on the 17th. Normally I don't care much about my layouts. My idea of good html is the kind that anyone with even a rudimentary knowledge of the code can look at and completely understand. As a result, all the pages that I write myself end up rather ... Spartan. Functional and tidy, but not graphically impressive. It was never a problem before because people came looking for good prose, and if I couldn't deliver that, nothing else I did would matter. This is different, though. I really want it to look nice. It's gonna require work, but it is starting to take shape.
I've been working on a defrag of the computer that my roommate lets me use when I'm home. It's taken five hours so far and it's still only to 32%. I had to pause it 'cause I wanted to check my email and write here. At least it does seem to be making progress. Krista says that hers always gets stuck at 10% and won't go further even overnight.
The best thing about this computer is its location. Right next to a sliding glass door. I just watched a gorgeous sunset over the mountains. I really love Utah sometimes.

I'm making progress with the Keenspace page. Their system is very different from anything else I've ever had to deal with, and their servers are a bit over taxed, but I think I've got it more or less figured out.
A friend sent me an email about the science of anime:
Anime Physics Law #29 - Law of Melee Luminescence:
Any being displaying extremely high levels of martial arts prowess and/or violent emotions emits light in the form of a glowing aura. This aura is usually blue for 'good guys' and red for 'bad guys'. This is attributed to Good being higher in the electromagnetic spectrum than Evil.
Thanks, Vanesa. That explains a lot.
I called and talked to my mom on the phone today. She sounds like she's feeling a lot better. They hope to have her home by Thursday, and she's optimistic that she'll be eating again in time for Thanksgiving. That'd be good, 'cause she and Dad are planning their usual Thanksgiving-far-away-from-your-children trip to Arizona. :p
Love you, Mom! ^-^

My mom is sick. She's going to be in the hospital for most of this week. This is distressing. It's nothing serious, but she's miserable at the moment, and likely to be miserable for a while. Hopefully not too long this time.
We now have an official date for the official release of our comic. It'll start for real on November 17, and be updated twice a week until forever. I'm really pleased with the way that it is turning out so far. The finished pages look wonderful, I'm totally totally in love with the story, and all the responses so far have been very positive and encouraging. Now if I could just figure out these instructions from Keenspace...

So, this morning, the same techy guy that's been giving me grief over my mp3s asks if I'd mind if he copied some of them. Right.
November. Wow.
