P-chan just got his own message board at http://s3.invisionfree.com/LandONinja I think the goal is to build it up for the day when he officially opens his webcomic. At any rate, after gentle encouragement, he made me the mod over the flames forum and the links and pimping. It's actually been fun so far. On the other hand, if I tell my family that I have authority over flamers and pimps, they'd almost certainly take it the wrong way.
Also for Kim who has no room to criticize. ^-^

This one's for Kim! I'm sorry I don't post enough!
Yesterday morning I left my house and walked five city blocks to wait for my train. When I arrived at my station it was 7:20 am, the sun had not yet cleared the mountains, it was snowing, and across the street a fifteen piece brass band from the University of Utah was playing 'The Time Warp.' No, I was not still in bed dreaming it all. No, I am not making this up. Just another surreal moment in the life of misha.
And now, my mother's fruit cake recipe:
cherry nut fruitcake
1 - 16 oz. bottle maraschino cherries 2 lbs. pitted dates 2 cups broken pecans 2 cups broken walnuts 2 tbs. butter 1 cup butter 3 cups brown sugar 5 eggs separated 3 1/2 cups flour 4 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. cloves 1/2 tsp. allspice 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1 cup milk 2 tsp. vanilla
Drain cherries, saving juice. Cut into small pieces along with dates and soak in 1/2 to 1 cup cherry juice overnight or until fruit absorbs juice. Put nuts into large skillet with 2 tbs. butter that has been melted and cook over low heat stirring until lightly browned. Set aside. Cream butter, add half the sugar and beat until light and fluffy. In another bowl beat egg yolks until very thick. Add remaining sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Combine the sugar mixtures and beat thoroughly. Combine flour, salt, baking powder and spices. Combine 1/2 cup mixture with fruit and set aside. Add remaining dry ingredients to batter alternately with milk. Beat well after each addition. Add vanilla. Fold in egg whites that have been stiffly beaten. Mix in fruit and nuts. Grease (10) small loaf pans (6 3/4 x 3 1/2 ") or a 10 " tube pan. Bake at 275 degrees for 1 1/2 hours for small pans or 2 hours for large pan. Cool cakes, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate.
